Frame numbers

3SW

3HW

5SW

When I bought my Triumph about 14 years ago, the first thing I learned was how to establish the date of manufacture.
Underneath the sadle we can find the month and year of production and at the frame tube near the headstock the framenumber.
When I bought my bike there were only a few Triumphs known in the Netherlands but now there are some more bikes around and
at a friends bike I discovered that his bike has a framenumber under the saddle.
So we must know where to look and don't make the same mistake as severall Dutch Norton owners have made; to take a casting number
as framenumber.
As the technology develops and the systems of the Dutch Registration Number Department (RDW) were all connected it appears that there
are six or seven Nortons with the same framenumber.
So what are the possible options to find the frame number?
On the headstock, see picture left, or on the frametube near the headstock under the petrol tank, see picture right top.
It's also possible to find the number under the sadle.
For some reason the factory changed their way of stamping at some time and maybe we can establish when.
All above concerns 3SW motorcycles and I am totally blank about the other models Triumph produced for the army, so please sent
me your framenumber; mail to wdtriumph@xs4all.nl or use this link
At least we can try to find out how many bikes have survived.
